Volunteering information

Our camp is run 100% by volunteers which also helps keep our costs low!  Maple Valley Day camp has been a wonderful place for girls in our community to make new friends, create adventures, and enjoy a week of pure fun every summer.  Since we are run totally by volunteers, it's people like you that make camp possible!  And who doesn't love camp?

Why Volunteer?

  1. Increase your chances of getting into camp.
Maple Valley Day Camp is very popular and we filled up extremely fast, but the children of our full-time volunteers are guaranteed a spot.  Campers without a volunteer are automatically placed on a waitlist until enough camp positions have been staffed.
  2. Get a bargain!
Volunteers receive a $84 discount on your campers' fees!!
  3. Give your other children a summer at camp too!
It can be hard to find a summer camp for children under 7, and as a parent, it can be even harder to let them go! But when you volunteer at day camp, you can enroll your younger children and boys in special units just for them, comfortable in the knowledge that you're nearby.
  4. Bond with your kids and meet their leaders.
Every day, your campers will come home with stories about their day and new songs and skills they've learned. Volunteering at camp offers a fantastic opportunity to live in your children's world and share their summer experience.
  5. Build your confidence.
MVDC offers training classes that will walk you through every step of the way. And as a new volunteer, you'll have the opportunity to work with experienced mentors and experience first-hand how much fun it can be to work with kids.
  6. Make New Friends
Many of our volunteers have so much fun at camp that they keep coming back for years after their kids graduate from being campers.

What are my duties at camp?

Most of our adult volunteers work in one of our units, either a camper, cherubs (preschool), boys or one of our specialty units (Science, Outdoor Cooking, or Crafts). Our adult volunteers have a chance to pair up with another adult and with some of our girl staff (LITs and Senior aides). The adult's job before camp is get to know their older girls and to help assist them with planning the few hours of unit time in their schedule- (the rest is all pre-planned!) The adult’s job during camp is to help their older girls be successful in leading a unit. We encourage the older girls to take the lead and to do as much as they feel comfortable doing.

Volunteers are required to attend once a month (1-1/2 hour) trainings prior to camp where they work together with their unit staff.
